OnePlus 2 vs. ASUS ZenFone 2: the Clash of Flagship Killers

A lot of buzz has been generated around the ASUS ZenFone 2 and the OnePlus 2 smartphones ever since they have been announced. Both the smartphone manufacturers are locking horns over these products. On one hand, manufacturer OnePlus is getting ready to launch a sequel to its successful model- OnePlus One, ASUS is banking hopes on its ZenFone 2 model. Although time will decide the winner, here is an attempt to analyze the models and draw a practical conclusion.
Externals: Design and Display:

OnePlus Two consists of a metallic frame while the ZenFone 2 is built with its usual plastic casing along with a metal exterior and a curved finish.
Additionally, Asus Zenfone carries a 5.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution and 403 PPI pixel density. OnePlus Two, on the other hand, comes with a 5.5-inch display screen with full HD resolution.

Internals: Hardware and Software:

While the Zenfone 2 holds a 2.3 GHz Quad-core Intel Atom processor and has both 2 & 4 GB RAM models, OnePlus Two runs on ‘Snapdragon 810 CPU & Adreno 430 GPU along with 3GB of RAM. As for internal storage, Asus Zenfone 2 supports 16GB, 32GB and 64GB expandable up to 64GB via an external MicroSD card slot. OnePlus Two, on the contrary, will have same internal memory without microSD card slot like its predecessor.
The Zenfone 2 consists of 3,000 mAh Lithium Polymer batteries while OnePlus Two has a slightly better 3100 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery and is hence slightly better.
Asus Zenfone 2 runs the latest Android Lollipop operating system with a ZenUI themed display. OnePlus Two follows its predecessor’s formula and is slapped with an Operating system called Oxygen OS, designed to provide an Android experience, which is more refined and on the lines of Google’s Nexus 6 model.
Camera and Connectivity:

Both these phone models have cameras which are better than what average smartphones have. The Asus Zenfone 2 has a 13MP rear camera punched with a dual LED based flash geo-tagging support. Additionally, there is a provision to shoot 1080 pixel videos at a speed of 30 frames per second. The front camera is powered at 5 MegaPixels. OnePlus Two, following the lines of OnePlus One, also houses a 13Megapixel camera and the entire features equivalent to what most current smartphones have. And hence this makes the tussle between these models inconclusive when it comes to cameras.
Asus Zenfone 2 and OnePlus Two both have connectivity features like 802.11ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and GPS. Although, USB Type-C connectivity is reversible, it is much better than conventional USB.
Conclusion:
Asus has set a price of $299 for its US-based customers and taken everyone by surprise for the ZenFone 2 with 64GB storage and a cheaper $199 model with 16GB storage and 2GB RAM. However, OnePlus 2 will be available at around $400 making it quite costlier than the Asus counterpart.
ASUS ZenFone 2 and OnePlus Two are both winners in the sense that both have a comparatively low price and high features. This would make these two models great flagship killers, which would bite into the customer base of giants like Samsung, HTC or Apple.
