Micromax has just launched its new budget Android smartphone called the Canvas Xpress 2 as the successor to the last year’s Canvas Xpress. The new phone comes with upgraded features and the latest software over its predecessor. It is being touted by the company as the most affordable smartphone with an octa-core processor. The device is also one of the cheapest devices to boast a 13MP rear camera in its range.

The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 has a new and refreshing design compared to its predecessor. The phone has Cirrus Logic Wolfson Stereo DAC speakers to create an ideal media viewing experience. The company has yet not revealed the exact dimensions of the phone. The Canvas Xpress measures pretty slim 8.6mm around the waist and weighs 143 grams. On the software front, the Canvas Xpress was released running Android KitKat, but got its Lollipop update a few months back. The Canvas Xpress 2 offers the latest Android Lollipop out of the box, and is also pre-loaded with apps like Chaatz, Clean Master, Scandid, SwiftKey Keyboard, Housing, and NewsHunt.
The Canvas Xpress comes with a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, coupled with a Mali-400 MP2 GPU and 1GB of RAM. The Canvas Xpress on the other hand is fuelled by a high performance 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592M processor, aided by 1GB of RAM and a Mali-450 MP2 graphics processor. For storage, both smartphones come with 8GB of flash storage, which users can further increase up to 32GB.
The Micromax Canvas Xpress offers a 5MP rear camera with autofocus, LED flash, and HD video recording, and a 0.3MP front snapper. Its successor on the other hand offers excellently camera features in its price range. The phone comes with a 13MP rear camera with a dual-LED flash, full HD video recording support, and a 2MP front shooter.
Connectivity and Battery
In terms of connectivity, the Canvas Xpress and Canvas Xpress 2, both offer dual-SIM support, 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, micro-USB, and A-GPS. The Xpress is powered by a 1,950mAh battery that delivers seven hours of talk time, while the Xpress 2 is backed by a beefier 2,500mAh battery that promises 9.5 hours of talk time.
The Micromax Canvas Xpress 2 is certainly a decent upgrade over its predecessor. Also, the phone is priced lower than the Xpress. The device is priced at Rs 5,999, while the Canvas Xpress is priced at Rs 5,999. The Canvas Xpress 2 delivers a better display, new software features, excellent camera, smooth performance, and a bigger battery than its predecessor.
